Q What is the law that applies to child injuries?
AThere are many laws in Virginia that apply to compensation a child can obtain for her injuries. Basically, however, the law requires that people act reasonably and, if they do not and their action causes injury to another (including a child), they are responsible for compensating the person who was injured.
So, in the case of a child, a day care provider whose negligence hurt your child is responsible for the injury, whether the injury is from a burn or fall or otherwise. The negligent driver of a motor vehicle is responsible for the injury to a child. The swimming pool owner whose lifeguards are not paying attention may be responsible for the injury or death of a child who is in the pool.
